AGROFORESTRY
In Ernst Götsch's words: "I'm trying to create, in every part of the world where
I stand as a forest gardener, agricultural ecosystems similar in structure and
function to the ones found in nature. At the same time, I'm trying to leave a
legacy of something positive in the balance of life and in energy complexified
by carbon, both in sub-systems of my intervention as in the macro organism as is
Planet Earth, a place where we are just a part of it and no more important as
any other species."
Topics:
•Principles of Agroforestry Systems run by nature
•Recovery of degraded areas, creating agrosystems similar to natural and
original ecosystems
•Intensive and diverse planting
•Annual and biannual consorted planting as creators of made of fruit and
flower species
•AFS planning in short, middle and long terms

BUILDING WITH BAMBOO
The art of Bamboo is directed for Architectural Projects, Landscaping,
Construction, Eco-design and decoration. This natural material is highly
renewable, that's why it is used in ecological and sustainable projects.
"Bambooist" is the term usually given to any individual that
has a passion for this material.. Henceforth the main objective of this
workshop is to transform the participants into bambooists.
This course offers a general knowledge of Bamboo's properties, showing
the different aspects and acceptation as a conservation element, as
environmental resurgence, as an energy system and as a building element.
In order to explore all these aspects as a whole, this workshop proposes
to gather building techniques approached through art and education.

INTUITIVE ARCHITECTURE
This workshop will provide tools to discover new levels of conceptualization
which will turn the act of design into a new experience. During the design of a
project there are moments when one has to be very lucid and analytical, while at
other moments our imagination must take over. When this happens our mental
projections move from the left hemisphere of our brain to the right
hemisphere.
Reality is observed by each side in its own way, the left side is the analytical and sequential part, while the right side is intuitive and synchronistic.
LOGIC:
•Introduction to Beta method.
•Affinity matrices
•Preparation of resistance maps
•Form-diagrams design
INTUITION:
•Breathing exercises
•Change the rhythm of brain waves
•Eco-imagination use in creativity
•Group work
•Unknown brain zones
•Use of periphery vision
During the last day students will apply the different ways of perceiving reality in a number of projects.
BIO-ARCHITECTURE
The workshop will cover the most important techniques developed in TIBÁ. We will
explore the concept of bio-architecture by mixing traditional materials like
bamboo and adobe with cement and recycled plastics.
It is a perfect opportunity for a first contact with our methods or to just put in practice the concepts described in the book "The Barefoot Architect". It's also ideal for people looking for new insights or simply to learn how to build healthy and sustainable structures.
Topics:
• Bamboo
• Adobe
• Composting Toilet
• Green Roofs
• "Cascaje"
• Permaculture
• Renewable energies
• Recycling
• Water
• Biological Filters
• Creativity
• Alpha and Beta brainwaves
This workshop will both practical and theoretical.
GRASS ROOF
The vegetation covered roof guarantees the thermal comfort in the internal
ambience due to thermal inversion provided by such a roof. It has the capacity
to reduce the local temperatures of the urban centers, increase the amount of
oxygen and air humidity, plus reduce noise pollution. The plants absorb the dust
and pollution, providing a better air quality and has an excellent visual
aspect. The rain water on the roof of the edification can be kept, stored and
reused.
Here one learns to build the structure of a grass roof, how to place the sods and how to install a simple drainage system. Apart from a pleasant aspect of such a roof it also provides climatic comfort in the spaces below, be it the hot or cold seasons.
BUILDING WITH EARTH
This course intends to make people aware about the importance of earth in
construction. It teaches how to prepare, apply and make finishes using different
earth techniques and also how to adapt these techniques to buildings made with
other materials.
Topics:
• Building with earth Introduction
• Ecologic construction
• Tradition and new applications
• Construction techniques with earth
• Materials
• Soil analysis
• Natural pigments
• Earth and cal finishes- interior/exterior
• Earth walls protection
• Earth construction practices
ECOLOGICAL WATER SYSTEM
Waterless Toilet, Grey Water Filter and Rain Water Harvesting.
The Bason (waterless toilet), developed by Johan van Lengen is a prototype
based on technology diffused worldwide, transforming human waste into organic
fertilizer. It is "waterless" because there is no use of water to flush and it
is compostable once it passes a Biochemical process where microorganisms and
bacterium convert the waste into organic fertilizer, without pathogens.
Furthermore, it is "ecological" due to its natural biological cycles, without
polluting the environment. In this workshop you will learn how to make and
assemble the thin concrete plates of the compartments and how to install the
accessories (seats, ventilation tubes and lids).
Gray water is the term used for the water coming from showers, washing
basins, laundry machine or any water which does not contain fecal residue.
Once the gray water gets treated by the biological filters it can be reused.
The rain water which falls on the roof of an edification can be harvested,
stored and reused.
INTRODUCTION TO PERMACULTURE
Permaculture is a powerful weapon of sustainability useful for our survival
on earth in this new millennium.
This workshop offers an awakening of simple practices of planning, ones that can be used at your home, in your life and begin the walk in search of ecological sustainability.
The objective of the workshop is to train people to design and redo their homes so that they become as sustainable as possible.
Will have notions in terms of soil, water, vegetable production, renewable energies and bio-construction. The activities objective will be to guide the participants towards the implementation and promotion of sustainable environments for humans.
ECOVILLAGE DESIGN
An Ecovillage is a community where many people can live in harmony with
nature, be auto-sustainable and have a minimal environmental impact.
This is done with the help of the people who desire to participate on the
design and also live in the ecovillage. The objective of the workshop is to
prepare people on how to design and plan a sustainable and healthy ecovillage.
All around the world we have examples of working ecovillages that have been around for a long time. With this workshop it will be easier to prepare oneself to let loose, change ones ways and behold new pleasures of livelihood.
Topics:
• Introduction and examples of ecovillages
• Terrain study - geobiology
• Feng shui
• Bio-construction
• Water
• Recycling
• Renewable energy
• Ecological economy
• Management
• Food production-agroforestry
ENVIRONMENTAL CAPOEIRA
Entwined for more than four centuries in Brazilian culture, Capoeira was banned until 1930 due to it being developed in the 17th century not only as a way to keep physically fit and preserve the African tradition of dance, but as a method of self-defence. Through this unique blend comes a martial art disguised as dance.
The aim of this course is to encourage the use of Capoeira as a tool for environmental education. In addition to expanding and improving coordination and gaining more agility, it will use the gestures of nature to develop capacity of the body.
We will have practice sessions of capoeira with all ages and experience levels being welcome.
The highlight of the course will be the 'berimbau' orchestra live in the forest.
Course topics:
• Movement of animals
• The history of Capoeira
• Practical lessons in natural and extreme situations
• Manufacture of the berimbau and caxixi using bamboo and other local materials
• Classes of Capoeira music
• Permaculture - the main tool of environmental education
• Berimbau orchestra live in the forest
• Bamboo - the wood of the future

EARTHBAG BUILDING
With just earth, a shovel, tamp, funnel and a bag we can build a house. Earthbag construction is one of the simplest, fastest and most sustainable of all eco-building techniques. It is also one of self-building's most flexible, for you can build self-supporting walls (square, round, etc) and retaining walls. It´s simplicity also makes it possible to build with the whole family.
Earthbag construction was developed as a solution for building in disaster areas where there is a growing demand for emergency shelter and a lack of creativity in finding solutions.
Of the many earth building techniques earthbag is the most modern. It was invented in 1984 Iranian architect Nader Khalili in response to a competition held by NASA for moon buildings and has gained much recognition since, namely to do with its strength and earthquake resistance.
In this workshop we will cover the history and the contemporary practices in earthbag construction and we will put into practice, step by step, the joy of building a wonderful wall, complete with arches and natural plasters. We will also see the Brazilian version of this technique known as `Hyper-Adobe´.
Topics covered:
Preparation of the area and materials required to start the job.
Foundations
Building with earthbags
Tying of the layers
Placement of doors and windows
Earth Plasters
Roof and grass roof options
GEOBIOLOGY THE HEALTHY HOME
Geobiology or Biology of Construction is also known as HABITAT MEDICINE. This science supports the fact that every house, office or buildings are important health suppliers. This means that depending on the conditions we live in, we are less or more healthy.
On one hand, we have the Ill Building Syndrome that according to OMS is the medical condition where people get sick apparently without a real cause and the symptoms increase by being in the same building for a period of time. These conditions can make us less active, affecting our efficiency and our well-being. On the other hand, Geobiology introduces a whole new concept of the Healthy Home with practical and effective solutions where our spaces can turn into a new source of energy, health and have a better life style.
Healthy Home is an action about being socially responsible by just being aware to the fact that we can improve our life style and at the same time care about our natural environment.
The Geobiology workshop gives professional and practical tools to detect and transform “ill buildings” into healthy homes.
